Admissions Process

Thank you for your interest in the Canterbury Episcopal School! Canterbury seeks families who value the benefits of a challenging independent school education and who are prepared to actively support their children through a collaborative educational process.

Inquire: We are happy to answer questions about Canterbury and give more information as requested. Please fill out an Inquiry Form and we will be happy to provide you with what you need!

Visit Canterbury: A visit to the campus is one of the best ways for you to experience the unique warmth and beauty of the Canterbury community. Campus tours are offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. and begin with a meeting with the Director of Admissions in Bishops Hall. Appointments are not necessary but can be scheduled with the Director of Admissions should these times not work for your family.

Apply: The application process begins when you decide that Canterbury is a fit for your child. You will be provided with an Admissions Packet with the necessary forms to evaluate your child (all forms can be downloaded below).

For each student applying we require an Application for Admissions, Parent/Family Questionnaire, two Teacher Evaluations (2nd – 12th Grades, English and Math teacher preferred), and Record Release (2nd – 12th Grades).

Assess: Once we have received the completed forms, along with the $150 application fee, we will schedule an assessment for your child. The assessment includes a school readiness appraisal, appropriate language arts and mathematics evaluations, and a writing sample.

Shadow: We invite your child to visit our campus for a half day to shadow a current student. This provides an opportunity to attend classes, participate in school activities, and visit with the division head.

Decide: The decision process takes approximately two weeks to complete and is based upon the assessment results, the two teacher evaluations, school records, as well as the family/student visit. Canterbury will offer admission to qualified students whenever spaces are available; otherwise, qualified students will be placed on a waiting list.

Should you have any questions, please contact Libby Tadlock, the Director of Admissions, at TadlockL@TheCanterburySchool.org or 972-572-7200 ext. 106.
