Letter from the Head of School

Thank you for your interest in The Canterbury Episcopal School, preparing our students for being successful at the college of their choice since 1992.  To know the heart of Canterbury, you must visit our tranquil, wooded, and safe campus, experience the excitement in the students’ eyes as they go about their learning tasks, and appreciate the beauty that is our daily life.  We look at each of our students as individuals, each with unique talents and gifts and unlimited potential.

This year is exciting as we are celebrating twenty-five years of serving our community as an academically rigorous and pleasantly diverse private school. We currently serve over 220 students in grades Pre-K through 12, all of whom have their hearts and eyes set on college and a successful life beyond their formal education.  Learning is an enjoyable experience at every age and our goal at Canterbury is to ensure that our students become life-long learners who enjoy the process.  At Canterbury, we guide our students to build their minds in critical thinking, we help them nourish their spirit through Christian education and weekly worship services, as well as participation in service to others beyond our learning community. In short, we want our students to learn how to be a valuable, productive and caring members of the community that is our world.

Through regular physical education in the early grades and a selection of nine competitive sports opportunities in the Upper School, we help students build healthy bodies and present them with opportunities to develop the character necessary to persevere in challenging situations and to prevail – lessons valuable in learning and in life.  Through carefully structured and age appropriate instruction in art and music, we introduce students to created beauty and fine aesthetics.

Canterbury is challenging for the mind and the body. With teachers who know their students, it is easy for them to be sure that life dreams can be attainable with hard work and dedication. There is no growth without challenge. Canterbury offers them a supportive, safe, and enriched environment in which to thrive while helping students to meet and exceed their individual potential.

We invite you to join us for a tour of the Canterbury Episcopal School’s 32-acre campus. I think you will experience the Canterbury Difference. The difference will be in how we think outside of the box to educate our students in how to be successful individuals. You can visit classrooms, our garden, or our chicken coop to see how we emphasize authentic learning.  A great school with excellent teachers and a motivated student body awaits you!

Blessings,
